We have recently been asked by a few of our clients which do we think is better – to send an email from a persons name or from a business? For us the answer is quite a simple one – it all depends upon how you want your company to be perceived. We have put together a few thoughts for each method below, to help you make the best decision.
Person’s Name is typically best for sales, customer service or delicate emails. If you are worried about promoting specific staff/retention, you can create an avatar that is forwarded onto the relevant person. This is a common practice that has 3 major advantages:
- Makes the email communication more personal
- Establishes you as an expert
- Creates accountability.
Company Name, on the other hand, is usually best for delivering company messages. Why? Because it:
- Delivers a Corporate message
- Guarantees better open rates if your brand is known and the individual is not
Studies have shown that when choosing whether to send an email from a persons name or from a business the “From” line has a greater impact on open rates than the “Subject” line, especially since it usually has a greater presence than the subject line in most email clients. So no matter what, we would always test and measure as results are industry and company specific. Do you send from a persons name or from a business name for your email marketing?
